Pastor & Principal Messages

Welcome to St. Michael School! In choosing to send your child to St. Michael School, you demonstrate a commitment to the values and philosophy of a Catholic education. The faculty and staff of our school look forward to working with you to promote academic excellence and spiritual development in the context of the teachings of the Catholic Church. Together we pray that God, who has begun this good work in us, will help us carry it through to completion.

Welcome Back from Father Morin

I wish to extend a warm welcome to all our staff, faculty and students as the new year begins at St. Michael's School. We look forward to helping you experience and share in the great educational opportunity of Catholic Education which we offer and maintain. This is still a reality for you and all of us because of the generosity and dedication of many individuals, families and the wider St. Michael Parish community for over 100 years in the Augusta area.
May God bless all of you during this coming school year in the studies you undertake, in the teaching you carry out, and in the organizing and administering of the various aspects of our school's life and mission. We seek to provide our young people with a strong faith-based education through the Catholic tradition of Faith, Hope, and Love based on our communion in and with the Spirit of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We appreciate your support and participation in keeping this educational ministry of the Church in Augusta a reality.

Christ's Peace,
Fr. Frank

- Dave Guthro, Communications Director

AUGUSTA---Bringing extensive experience in education as a teacher and coach, as well as displaying a proven aptitude towards engaging students on a daily basis, Kevin Cullen has been named the new principal of St. Michael Catholic School in Augusta. Most recently, Cullen was a history and Spanish teacher at Saint Dominic Academy in Auburn.

“The search committee was impressed by his wide range of experience and his collaborative style,” said Fr. Louis J. Phillips, Superintendent of Maine Catholic Schools. “I think he is a perfect fit for St. Michael Catholic School as the school begins a new chapter of its history.”

Prior to arriving at Saint Dominic Academy in 2007, Cullen taught social studies, literature, and vocabulary at St. Joseph School and Trinity Catholic School in Lewiston from 2004-2007. He also taught ESL to students from Vietnam and Cambodia at a high school in Stockton, California in 1992 and 1993. His teaching experience extends to the U.S. Navy in which he served as a nuclear engineer and as a training and education officer while stationed in Scotland from 1984 to 1988.

In addition to mentoring students in the classroom, Cullen has built a strong reputation as a coach. He has led the golf and tennis programs at Saint Dominic Academy since 2006, receiving multiple Maine Coach of the Year Awards. He has passed on his knowledge and passion for golf since the 1980s. Prior to becoming a full-time teacher, Cullen was a PGA Golf professional at golf courses in Newport Beach, California (1988-1990); Rye, New Hampshire (1990-1992); and San Jose, California (1993-2002). From 2002 to 2007, Cullen and his wife Laurie owned Maple Lane Golf Course in Livermore, Maine.

Cullen holds an A.A. from the University of Nevada-Reno, a B.A. in U.S. History from Granite State College in New Hampshire, and this year, earned his M. Ed. from Concordia University in Montreal.
